Our philosophy
Our philosophy has always been rooted in the soil itself. True testament to our commitment to nature, organic farming is much more than a stamp on the label; it’s the culminating point of a completely holistic approach.
By cultivating a balanced ecosystem and strengthening the immune system of our vines, we allow nature to develop at its own pace- and we strive to tread lightly while doing so. Our vineyards remain alive, adorned with useful herbs, honouring the rhythm of nature.
Vinification and ageing
Our winemaking philosophy is simplicity in its purest form – no additives, no alterations. Every decision respects the authenticity of the fruit. Gentle pressing in our charming, almost miniature press and ageing in one-wine French oak Burgundy barrels maintain a delicate woody balance.
The cuvée aged in amphorae, added recently, reveals a full, silky palate that echoes our philosophy: softness, elegance and drinkability… consumed.
Having worked in organic farming for so many years, it was only natural to apply for that certification. Obtained in 2017, it is the official reflection of our commitment to nature.
Grape varieties
While Merlot makes up 67% of our vineyard, our affection for the finesse of Cabernet Franc, which contributes 24%, remains unrivalled. There is also a growing presence of Malbec, which accounts for 8%, and the promising emergence of Petit Verdot, which brings a long-awaited touch of excellence.
It’s an ode to diversity, each grape variety writing a new chapter in our winegrowing saga.
Our history
Château Franc-Cardinal embodies a heritage born of passion and perseverance. Founded by Sophie and Philip in the early 2000s, it is now run by Sophie and Benjamin, with Amélie’s unfailing support- a testament to our family’s commitment, reflected in every bottle.
The otter
While the otter symbolises pristine environments (isn’t it only found in rivers that deserve it?), it also has a deeper, more personal meaning for us.

Our vineyards
Nestled in the varied landscapes of the Libourne region, our plots have a variety of characteristics: clay, sand, gravel; we have to adapt to their complexity, letting them express themselves.
The unique personality of each plot shapes our winemaking, underlining the importance of a method adapted to each terroir. Here, the aromatic profiles weave a story told by the land itself.
